Veterinarian services for birds

We are here to help you realize a long-term, rewarding relationship with your bird or birds. Because of their unique needs, birds require the veterinarian care of a specialist. Our specialize is a ABVP (American Board of Veterinary Practitioners) Avian board-certified Diplomate and member of the Association of Avian Veterinarians (AAV). Our specialist loves and understands birds and is skilled at providing a stress free care experience for them.

Some of the avian services we offer include:

  • Wellness exams: We recommend annual or more frequent wellness visits for your bird, depending on their age, health, and species. These visits are important to monitor your bird’s health, as well as to share new information to improve their physical and social well-being. During a wellness exam, we will perform a thorough physical examination, check your bird’s weight and body condition, and discuss their diet, housing, and environmental enrichment. We may also recommend blood tests, fecal tests, or other diagnostic tests to screen for any health issues or diseases.
  • Vaccinations: Some birds may benefit from vaccinations against certain diseases, such as avian polyomavirus, psittacosis, or Newcastle disease. We will assess your bird’s risk factors and recommend the appropriate vaccines for them. Vaccinations can help protect your bird from serious and potentially fatal infections, and they can also prevent the spread of disease from one bird to another.
  • Microchipping: Microchipping is a safe and permanent way to identify your bird in case they get lost or stolen. A microchip is a tiny device that is implanted under your bird’s skin, and it contains a unique code that can be scanned by a microchip reader. If your bird is ever found by someone else, they can contact a microchip registry or a veterinarian to find out your contact information and reunite you with your bird. Microchipping is especially important for birds that are allowed to fly outside or that have a high value.
  • Nail and wing trimming: Nail and wing trimming are routine procedures that can help improve your bird’s comfort and safety. Overgrown nails can cause your bird to have difficulty perching, walking, or gripping, and they can also injure you or themselves. Wing trimming can help prevent your bird from flying away or injuring themselves by flying into windows, fans, or other hazards. We will trim your bird’s nails and wings carefully and gently, and we will advise you on how often they need to be done.
  • Surgery: Sometimes, your bird may need surgery to treat an injury, illness, or congenital defect. We have the expertise and equipment to perform various types of avian surgery, such as tumor removal, fracture repair, beak repair, crop surgery, or sexing surgery. We use advanced anesthesia and monitoring techniques to ensure your bird’s safety and comfort during the procedure, and we provide post-operative care and pain management to help your bird recover quickly and smoothly.
  • Emergency care: We understand that emergencies can happen at any time, and we are prepared to handle them. If your bird has an emergency, such as trauma, bleeding, poisoning, breathing difficulty, or seizures, please call us immediately or bring your bird to our clinic as soon as possible. We have a separate area for hospitalized birds, and we will provide them with the urgent care they need. We also have a network of local emergency clinics that can treat birds after hours or on weekends, if we are closed.

We love birds, and we want to help them live long, healthy, and happy lives. Whether your bird needs a routine check-up, a vaccination, a surgery, or an emergency care, you can trust us to provide them with the best avian services possible.
